The SUTROFOR is co-ordinated by the University of Copenhagen, Centre for Forest, Landscape and Planning at Faculty of Life Science, Copenhagen, Denmark. Below is presented an overview of the institution’s experience in handling international educational programmes  and students.

The University of Copenhagen has a strong international profile characterised by a large number of well-reputed international partner institutions, an active involvement in strategic networks and student exchange programmes such as Socrates/Erasmus and Nordplus. The University of Copenhagen participates in EU intensive programmes at BSc, MSc and PhD levels as well as joint curricular development projects. The University of Copenhagen continuously develops its international activities now offering more courses in English as well as one BSc and eight MSc programmes entirely  in English.

The University of Copenhagen has established bilateral agreements with partner institutions and universities in Europe, the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and developing countries. The Faculty of Life Science has extensive experience with EU consortia programmes such as EU-Canada and EU-USA and is presently  coordinating the EU-Australia programme LEAFSE (Learning through Exchange – Agriculture, Foods Systems  and Environment). The Faculty of Life Science has worked within several strategic educational networks. In 1995, the  NOVA Network was founded – a platform for innovative Nordic co-operation within forestry, veterinary and  agricultural sciences. In 2001, the European network Euroleague for Life Sciences was formed focusing on joint  teaching and learning activities, mobility, development of joint study programmes and quality assurance. The Faculty of Life Science is also a member of the Øresund University network – a cooperation of 14 universities in the Øresund region. The Faculty of Life Science holds the presidency of the NATURA network consisting of 28 European members ("Network of  European Agricultural (Tropically and sub-tropically oriented) Universities and scientific complexes Related with  Agricultural development").

In 1998, the SLUSE consortium  was established (The Danish University Consortium on Sustainable Land Use and  Natural Resource Management), in collaboration with two other Danish universities. SLUSE facilitates education  and research on a wide range of topics pertaining to sustainable land use and natural resource management. A  special SLUSE programme has been developed for the integration and improvement of education, field training  and research. The Centre for Forest, Landscape and Planning has also been involved  in activities related to developing countries, and several MSc and PhD programmes aim directly at providing capacity and  qualifications in the developing country context.

The University of Copenhagen follows a comprehensive strategy for internationalisation. With more than 400 international students, the Faculty of Life Science offers an interesting  international study environment with an excellent base for educational and cultural exchange. The faculty offers good  facilities and support structures, including welcome and orientation meetings, a buddy programme introducing the international students to their study environment and helping them settle in Denmark, free Danish language instruction,  and a number of social events introducing Denmark and Danish ways of living.

To support international cooperation and to facilitate transparency and academic recognition, the University of Copenhagen has  implemented a number of Bologna instruments, i.e. the 3+2-3 structure, the ECTS credit point system, and the Diploma Supplement.  Quality assurance and international benchmarking are highly prioritised areas.
